Guide: Welcome and auto roles
This tutorial sets up a simple onboarding flow: new members get a welcome message and a default Member role automatically.
Time: about 10 minutes
Requires: Manage Server, AIO invited from Servers
What you will build#
- A
#welcomechannel message when someone joins - One auto-assigned role (for example
@Member) - Optional pointer to rules or reaction roles
Step 1 — Create roles and channel#
- In Discord, create a
@Memberrole with permissions you want every verified user to have. - Create
#welcome(or use an existing introductions channel). - In Server Settings → Roles, drag AIO above
@Member.
Step 3 — Configure auto roles#
- Open Dashboard → Servers → {Guild} → Auto roles.
- Enable auto roles on join.
- Select
@Member. - Save.
On Free, you can assign one role on join. Pro adds sticky and timed roles. See Auto roles.
Step 4 — Test#
Use a spare Discord account or a trusted friend:
- Join the server (or rejoin after a kick if testing again).
- Confirm the welcome message appears in
#welcome. - Confirm
@Memberappears on the account.
If the role is missing, see Troubleshooting — usually role hierarchy.
Step 5 — Optional extras#
- Add Reaction roles in
#rolesfor colors or game tags. - Link your Ticket panel in the welcome text for support.
- Enable Anti-raid if you are a public server.
