Guide: Welcome and auto roles

This tutorial sets up a simple onboarding flow: new members get a welcome message and a default Member role automatically.

Time: about 10 minutes
Requires: Manage Server, AIO invited from Servers

What you will build#

1. A #welcome channel message when someone joins
2. One auto-assigned role (for example @Member)
3. Optional pointer to rules or reaction roles

Step 1 — Create roles and channel#

1. In Discord, create a @Member role with permissions you want every verified user to have.
2. Create #welcome (or use an existing introductions channel).
3. In Server Settings → Roles, drag AIO above @Member.

Step 2 — Configure welcome#

1. Open Dashboard → Servers → {Guild} → Welcome.

2. Enable welcome messages.

3. Set Welcome channel to #welcome.

4. Edit the message, for example:

   Welcome {user} to {server}! Read #rules and pick roles in #roles.

5. Save.

Step 3 — Configure auto roles#

1. Open Dashboard → Servers → {Guild} → Auto roles.
2. Enable auto roles on join.
3. Select @Member.
4. Save.

On Free, you can assign one role on join. Pro adds sticky and timed roles. See Auto roles.

Step 4 — Test#

Use a spare Discord account or a trusted friend:

1. Join the server (or rejoin after a kick if testing again).
2. Confirm the welcome message appears in #welcome.
3. Confirm @Member appears on the account.

Step 5 — Optional extras#

• Add Reaction roles in #roles for colors or game tags.
• Link your Ticket panel in the welcome text for support.
• Enable Anti-raid if you are a public server.
